CHAPTER THREE

Mac grabbed his keys and jumped in his truck. Only one place she would head when she has a bur in her side- Jacksons Point, the one place Lin always loved. Mac turned out of the Rock-Hard lot and onto the highway towards Jacksons Point it was only seven miles away, but the road was winding. Knowing that girl she’s sittin’ by the old tree and fell asleep.

The rain had now turned to sleet, and the temperatures had begun falling earlier. When Mac arrived at Jacksons Point, he saw nothing, not one car parked. Mac stopped and put the truck in Park. Getting out of the truck he scanned the dirt road for signs that any vehicle has been up on the mountain. Nothing, no tracks in the fresh snow and sleet that lay on the ground but his own. The sky was clear as the stars and the full moon bounced its light on the water of the old swimming hole. Mac stood in silence for a moment when a faint sound of what sounded like a car horn grabbed his attention. Car horn? Then reality struck- Lin’s car?

He hoped not but Mac jumped in the cab of his truck, started it up and turned back down the mountain opening his window so he could follow the sound of the horn. The closer he got the louder it grew. When he reached the end of the mountain road. he turned on to the secondary road that sat about a mile off the main highway. As the sound of the horn grew louder, a pair of very faint red tail lights in the distance caught his eye. Mac sped forward towards almost losing control of his truck as he made his way to the edge of the embankment.

His worst fears were realized as he jumped from the cab of his truck, grabbing his flashlight and tucking it under his arm. The light caught the license plates Tennessee then scanned the car it was Lindsey’s convertible.

“Lin!” Mac screamed as he started towards the driver’s side. All he heard back was the echo of his voice in the distance as it echoed through the mountains. “Lin!” He called again as he finally reached the door and attempted to pull it open. “Lin! Lin!” Mac reached over and pushed Lindsey on the shoulder- who had fallen asleep. She was soaked through to the bone and shivered once she woke. She tried to focus but the rain poured so hard it was difficult for her to know if it was really Mac or a figment of her imagination.

“Mac…...? Is that you Mac?”

“Ya, darlin’ it’s me... Are you okay?” He asked as he tried to pull her from behind the steering wheel.

“Ya, I’m fine. Sore but unhurt. I’m mostly cold.” She said shivering.

“It’s no use. You will have to cut me out the airbag has me pinned. And the seatbelt won’t release.”

“No worries, baby. I have a knife.”

Mac cut open the airbag then cut the seatbelt strap.
